Well, a blog is technically just a "Web Log" - or an online diary.
So this entry just contains some personal stuff for my friends, family and anyone else who might be even remotely interested. It is nothing more than an update as to what is going on in my life at the moment...
Hhappy Mother's Day to all Mums!
(I just noticed the sign outside the hotel where I am saying for a few hours...)
I am in the UK - but only for a very short time - and it is all work. Unfortunately, I can't phone anyone as the SIM card I was using last time I was over here has long since expired and, unbelievably, there isn't even a telephone in my room, (which is just-as-well really, as hotels usually charge an "arm and a leg" for telephone calls. I gave-up with Skype a few years ago and in any case, I don't even have the headset with me in order to make calls using my laptop...
So what's happening? ...I arrived in Newcastle on Wednesday night and went straight to work on a barge in Sunderland on Thursday. For my Dad and anyone else who might be even remotely interested, the damn thing was just off-loading a 4,500 Tonnes, 27.4Km long and about 10 or 12 inches thick power cable to another barge. Both barges have massive 'carousels' (revolving storage tanks) and the cable is spooled-off one barge and on to the other. NOT very exciting and a particularly boring job for me. The whole job is supposed to be about a week and I thought it was a bit strange that my company would fly me all the way from the Philippines just for that.
So then they suddenly decided to take me off, half-way through the job - and then fly me back around the world to Labuan in one of the Malaysian States in Borneo. Had they been able to plan ahead even 3 or 4 days, I could have gone strait there from Manila and saved myself about 20 hours of flying time!!!
Not to worry... The ship that I will be joining in Labuan is going out to repair some of the telecoms cables that were damaged during the recent disaster off North East Japan.
I can't loose any more hair, through radiation, so you might well find that I have even sprouted a few tufts when I next upload any photos to my profile! 'Might not look too bad if it comes out in a Mohican style!
The ship is an old crate. It has already had two major fires since we had it. And to be frank, I am more worried about the damn ship catching fire again; than I am about any radiation hazards working off Japan.
So I am still alive and no complaints. It would have been nice to have been able to see some of my family and friends in the UK but at least I'm heading back to somewhere warmer!
